End violence against sex workers

December 17 is the International Day to End Violence Against Sex Workers.

It's a job, and it shouldn't be such a terribly dangerous job. Making sex work illegal makes it far more dangerous, because sex workers can't call the police for protection.

The murders of 4 women in Atlantic City in 2006 are still unsolved.

Hmmm. Well I am down with that. Like the drug-war the criminalization of prostitution has only served to give organized crime a money-source and to force people who through whatever disastrous course of events end up as sex-workers to live outside of the (admittedly flawed) safety-net provided by our society.

I agree, except it's not true that all people who do sex work do it because of a personal disaster. For some people, that's true. But other people do this work because it's an easy way to make a lot of money and they like it, or like things about it (such as flexible hours, or dealing with people). I've been reading a lot of essays by sex workers in which they express this view.
