Dept. Chair/aka "my boss": You know, a lot of people just ignore those emails and those deadlines.
Me: Eh?
Dept. Chair: I mean, I am not saying that you should or anything. I am just saying, you know, that a lot of people just ignore them.

I like how job postings are labeled, "What's inside the crystal cave".
From what I've gathered from administrator rants over the past few years, faculty ignore most of the administrator's instructions. It's one of the ways you distinguish grad student from faculty. The more you ignore the emails, the more senior you are among the faculty.
