Maybe Canadians have a different grammatical structure than we do, especially when it comes to incorporating two different ideas in the same sentence. But I do have a new appreciation of the suffrage movement now!
I don't think I would have overlooked disposable maxi pads. I think I'd have been very happy not to have to go, literally, "on the rag" anymore. Then again, I'm a liberated kinda gal who would rather use other euphemisms like: "aunt flo's in town", "i'm having my cycle", "ms. uterus is pissed off today", and "miz jay is on vacation".

My my mom's grandma used to crochet them.
my high school history teacher said women used to have to wash their rags and hang them out to dry on the clothesline.
