Did you know? The functioning of printers is directly affected by their proximity to the survivors of recent car accidents

Student:

"Sorry that I did not print my paper out before class started this morning. My roommate got in a bad car accident last night."

Note: This same roommate's bout of swine flu earlier in the semester showed that the functioning of printers is also adversely affected by their proximity to swine flu.

maybe he's anthropomorphizing the printer so that his roommate is his printer.

his printer was in the car accident!

I have a feeling this roommate's semester is going to get worse before it gets better. Next time he doesn't finish a paper on time his roommate will be hit by a meteor or something.

I imagine that for all of his classes, he has an ill/accident prone/somehow unstable relative/close friend/automobile/family pet. He then rotates them on a semester basis. You got his roommate this term, but if you have him in another class later on, you'll get the immune compromised family dog.
