Could be worse

Just to update this situation: the book manuscript suffered disaster in the wacky, wacky land beyond the Misty Mountains that is the academic publishing industry. But not nearly the worst kind of disaster.

I have heard much worse. I should not complain, really.

Things are bad for book manuscripts in the land of academic publishing.

 Yeah, that bad.

(For anyone who does not recognize that volcano, it's in Mordor. Recent conversation with CC while watching a certain HBO series:

Me: Do you know what is going on even though you did not watch the books? Do you want me to say who that guy is?

CC: No, I know.

[long pause]

CC: Is this the one where they are going to meet elves to get some kind of jewels?

Me: Uh, do you mean rings?

CC: Yes!

Me: No. This is the other one.)

It is very hard, having read the books of said HBO series, to talk to people who are only watching the series. Especially when they say things like, "XXX is a real shit. I hope he dies. Horribly." And I have to just stand there and say nothing!!

Yeah, I was thinking that the other day--how is it that I really like someone who tossed a child from a window in one of their first scenes? I sort of like that about the books. But it also annoys me, especially after one of my favorite characters (who is also everyone else's favorite character) commits a nasty and gendered murder.

Queen C. is becoming my favorite character (in the books.) The bad guys and ladies are just more interesting. And the good people are just so stupid!

Sometimes good people do bad things? Or, maybe good people often do really bad things?

Also, said favorite character murdered someone who was behaving *very badly* with a very bad man.
