Stupid piers! What are they even good for? Sure, sometimes you need them to get on or off of a boat, but other than that... It's not clear why you would need to even discuss piers in the context of the class. Perhaps that's why the student found them so objectionable.

Piers are good for fishing and getting on a boat, but they do not know crap about how to write a paper!
